Born to Apostles Charles and Deborah Bloom and into a musical family, his brother is a 2x Grammy winner, David is destined to glorify God with beautiful music. His father’s military career took him from Alaska, where he was born, Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he grew up and his gospel roots took hold. At eleven years old, he wrote his first song, which his father then asked him to perform in church. David recalls this first experience: “Once I finished singing, I noticed the effect it had on the congregation, and I was convinced I was born to write music.” Shortly after that he picked up the guitar and started playing the piano. Once his brother left to go on tour, David stepped in as musical director of the church and has been inspired ever since.
His music reflects a deep love of God as well as a feeling of joy and celebration. At an early age he was inspired by the likes of Darlene Zschech, Hillsong, Donnie Hathaway, Mahalia Jackson, Jason Upton, Israel Houghton and Kirk Franklin. Although deeply entrenched in his southern gospel roots, David currently takes inspiration from Hillsong, Bethel Music, Will Reagan, Jason Upton, and Rick Pino. His heart is to write lyrics that glorify the heartbeat of God, and to also produce a sound that reflects the ambience of heaven.
When asked how his Stellar Award Winning Song of the Year, “You Deserve It”, came about, he has this to say. “JJ Hairston first heard about the song in Kansas City. JJ’s added his creative touch which molded the song into what audiences hear today and brought it to life.” “You Deserve It” was written in 2014 about a very tough time in David’s life, where everything connected to him was “caught in whirlwind.” Overall, he believes the song shows his persistence through adversity and a willingness to continue his worship in spite of all circumstances.
David looks forward to creating music in a variety of genres that brings people closer to God.
