Talented songstress Theresa Pinkney is speaking her mind through her songs. A Washington, D.C. area vocalist and former student of the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Pinkney has been said to have the voice of an angel. A former member of the gospel group Just Breathe and member of the ensemble Pastor Earl Miller and Purity, the singer and songwriter has just officially entered the music industry with her debut CD entitled Me Against The World. The project released on July 12, 2011, and contains pop, R&B and gospel-flavored tunes with strong inspirational messages. The singer held her CD release event at Calvary Gospel Church in Waldorf, MD, last month to a crowded sanctuary and anticipating fans.
Hosted by Christian comedian, E. Boogie and featuring the talents of other local opening acts, the night was truly for Theresa. She sung to her heart’s content including songs like the project’s title tune, “Me Against The World”, the reassuring “Silent Praise” and the hip-hopped themed “Incredible” with fellow gospel artist Indigo. Pinkney signed CDs after the concert and had a chance to greet those who have been supporting her ministry for years.
Pinkney was thrilled at the response. “I was so overjoyed to share my music ministry with everyone that came out,” shares the artist. “I felt nothing but love, for where there is God, there is love. The band, One Vision Productions, led by Music Director, Elliot Jefferson, was amazing and my husband’s support and help was heaven sent. Also, I was blessed by everyone’s ministry that night and am so grateful. I look forward to growing with my music ministry and taking people with me on this journey,” says Theresa.
Although everyone present had a great time, the night was bittersweet. A friend and staunch supporter of Theresa’s ministry, the woman who encouraged Theresa to pursue her dream of singing was not there. She passed away from breast cancer in early 2011. Theresa holds fond memories of her friend, even recollecting times when she would listen to Theresa’s song “Promise” while undergoing chemotherapy. In her memory, Theresa has chosen to dedicate a portion of the proceeds from Me Against The World to the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Relay For Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society.
