Members of St. Peters Missionary Baptist church returned to worship Sunday to remember Pastor William Schooler.
Pastor Nathan Kimbrough, Schooler’s nephew led the service.
“It was all about being one. Being together. Loving. Do not forget the legacy of Doctor Schooler,” said Pastor Nathan Kimbrough.
Longtime church member, Pat Sanders was present the day of the shooting and came to worship on Sunday to heal.
“It gave us a chance for everyone to get together and express what was going on and how we were feeling,” Sanders said. “It was hard. I wasn’t for sure I would be able to come back. After the service Thursday I just said, ‘I’m going to do it. For him.’ We’re still healing. I know it’s going to be a long time for us to get over this.
The funeral services for Pastor Schooler were held Thursday with hundreds of people in attendance.
Schooler’s brother, Daniel Schooler, faces murder charges in his death. He pleaded not guilty last week.
