An up-tempo praise track, “We Have The Victory” finds the listener singing along while declaring success. Although the catchy song features inspiring background vocals and uplifting lyrics, the tune was born out of grief. “The song came to me after going through a painful divorce,” says Baxter. “At that time, I felt like I was finished with music, but that changed when I heard a sermon. The speaker said that anyone who is successful had to overcome obstacles. He said that if you aren’t motivated to overcome obstacles, how can you then succeed in Christ? That statement caught my attention and the Holy Spirit said to me, ‘You are victorious; you will win. I need you to put the shattered pieces of your life back together again’”. And that’s exactly what he’s begun to do.
With a renewed sense of purpose, Drew Baxter is rebuilding his life. The new Music Director at Christ Community Church in Cleveland, OH, is well acquainted with serving in music ministry in church. His parents, both pastors, Bishop Robert S. Baxter, Sr. and Pastor Grace N. Baxter, encouraged his musical gifts as a youngster. It was his father, with a talent for music himself, who taught Drew how to play the keyboard, the organ and the drums. Soon after, singing came and he took on a role as Worship Leader, which ultimately led to a position as Minister of Music. He’s toured and played for his father, his uncle, Douglas Miller, Tonex, Beverly Crawford, among others.
The former leader of the Gospel ensemble, Drew Baxter & New Inspiration of Praise, launched his solo career with the release of his debut, The World Needs You, in 2016. Since that time, he’s appeared on several television programs including The Word Network’s Rejoice In The Word, WATC-TV’s Atlanta Live, TCT-TV’s The Dorinda Show, CTN’s Time of Refreshing and America’s Got Anointing. He followed up his debut with a sophomore project called Secrets of Love and he’s currently readying a fall 2021 release entitled Legacy. He’s been recognized for his artistry and ministry with an Akademia Award for Best Song of the Year and a Joy In Praise Music & Arts, Inc. Group of the Year Award.
In addition to his roles as artist, songwriter, arranger, and producer, he is also a music entrepreneur. He will be launching DB Music Productions, a production and consulting firm, which will assist Gospel artists and church music departments in refining their music ministries.
