Produced by the Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and the Gospel Heritage Month Foundation, Evolution of Gospel is a two part celebration held in Washington, DC and Houston (the DC event was held earlier this month). It not only shines a spotlight on the gospel music genre but also serves as a forum to honor key people who’ve made a great impact on the host city’s cultural landscape. This year’s Houston honorees are:
- Dr. Thomas Freeman, Distinguished professor and Debate Coach at Texas Southern University
- Skipper Lee Frazier, legendary radio personality of Radio station KCOH
- State Representative Al Edwards, advocate of the state’s Juneteenth celebration
- Rev. Paul Jones, posthumously, Gospel recording artist
