New Artist Spotlight

21 Year Old Anastasia Aims to Uplift and Inspire Her Generation With Music

AnastasiaMost of today’s young female vocalists flaunt their sexuality with revealing costumes or suggestive lyrics to get attention. A lot of them grab headlines for their illicit romances, trashing hotel rooms or starting beefs with other artists but none of them compare to Anastasia. As she promotes her new radio single “Nothing Compares” and works on her upcoming debut CD “Where Life Begins” (Over & Above), the 21-year old Atlanta college student aims to inspire her generation with uplifting music, classic beauty and personal integrity.

“I am in love with this project because it’s not traditional,” says Anastasia who is also a Christian. “It’s something new and something fresh. I feel like we really need this because there are so many youth out there that need to be touched and they don’t have anyone or anything to relate to and I feel like I am that person.  You can be unique. You can be fly. You can be classy and still be saved.”

The stylish singer proudly admits to being a virgin and has taken up chastity before marriage as one of her causes. It may be a rare viewpoint in today’s sex-crazed social climate but Anastasia is all about encouraging and sharing her faith with her peers. Her producer James E. Jones (a former Def Jam/Uptown Records executive who worked with the likes of Mary J. Blige and Heavy D. prior to   becoming an Atlanta pastor) is creating an album that will appeal to the fans of Beyonce and Rhianna while also holding its own among the music of contemporary gospel acts like Mary Mary and Kierra Sheard.

Although, she once met with legendary record executive Sylvia Rhone and considered a career as an R&B artist, Anastasia ultimately chose to do inspirational music instead.  “It didn’t work out because that wasn’t God’s will for my life,” she concedes. “That wasn’t the plan that He wanted me to do. It took me a while but I had to understand and realize that you have to answer God’s call. When something is in God’s will He’ll open a door and let it happen but I came to the realization that I wanted to do gospel. I love Him so much that I would rather use my gift for Him in ministry than to use it for myself and what I’d rather do for my own selfish gain.”
