Kathy Taylor Commemorates World Autism Month With Autism Speaks

Veteran Gospel singer-songwriter, Kathy Taylor, to partner with Autism Speaks in commemoration of World Autism Month in a “town-hall” style conversation on Facebook, Thursday, April 14.

World Autism Month kicked off with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. The month-long celebration includes autism-friendly events and educational activities to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support. Taylor and Janet Williams, Director Community Outreach, Autism Speaks (Mid-Atlantic and South-Atlantic), will host an awareness-building event to discuss the importance of autism awareness in the black community; as well as bridging the gap for faith-based communities.

Kathy proudly shares her amazing story of love, and resilience. Five years ago she adopted two young girls, one of whom was on the Autism spectrum. Kathy immediately sought out resources and information about autism, searching for ways to help her raise her daughter in a safe, and loving environment. Today, Kathy is passionate about sharing her story to help families, and raise awareness especially in her community.

“As a parent of an autistic child, I think it is extremely important to raise awareness and help our community understand and not be frightened by the disability,” said Kathy Taylor. “Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the world, and in the last few years there has been an increase in autism rates among minorities. I want our communities to be aware and gain understanding about our children who are in need of special services and kindness.”

Everyone can join the interactive conversation on THURSDAY, APRIL 14 at 4:30pmCST/5:30pmEST on Kathy’s official Facebook Page:
