As the music industry continues to change at lightening speed, keeping up with the latest in music from technical changes, styles of music, the movers and shakers and so on, can be challenging. However the 2012 North Carolina Gospel Announcers Guild Conference, under the leadership of its president, Pastor Arvetra Jones, delivered a well thought out constructive week that touched on everything in the Gospel arena musically locally, regionally, nationally and internationally!
Held in Durham, NC at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel, Tuesday, May 15 to Friday, May 18th, hundreds turned out for a busy four day scheduled that offered everything from Luncheons, Workshops that discussed Radio, Print, Internet, Public Relations, Artists Development, Quartets, Stellar Awards Criteria, Radio Research, International Opportunities and Gospel Hip Hop, Vendors with excellent placement and great networking opportunities.
Some of this year’s special guest panelists included Pastor Arvetra Jones, Peggy Tatum, Bubba Fann, Michael Boykin, Kenny Taylor, Jerry Smith, Dennis Cole, Chris Squire and The Belle.
Nightly Gospel Concerts also took place featuring artists delivering the Quartet sound to Traditional and Contemporary with Ami Rushes, Bubby Fann, Benaiah, Earnest Pugh, Amber Bullock, Lowell Pye, Damon Little, Grandma G, Brian Courtney Wilson, La’ Ontra Jones and MANY others, as well as a special Friday night Christian Rap Concert, featuring Zee, This’l, DJ Will, Jones Boy, Blaze, HELPS and several others, that performed until 2am Saturday.
One of the highlights for the week was the Prestige Award Banquet co-hosted by Arvetra Jones and The Belle. The Awards show recognized some of the best and beloved talent in North Carolina which included fifteen categories with Minister Earl Bynum winning the Male Announcer of the Year! “I am totally surprised and truly humbled…I promise you,” says Bynum.
